Casts. When you break a bone, you need a cast to help the bone set and heal. The thing about the cast is that it has a deadline, you know when you're going to have it removed and begin the process of rehabilitation.
Orthotics function like casts, they hold a joint in place to prevent unwanted movement. Yet, when orthotics are prescribed, there is rarely a deadline for when you'll be out of them and on to the next step.
